What do I need to prove in a negligence claim? Generally, that the other party owed you a duty of care, breached the expected standard of care, and caused you a loss that was a reasonably foreseeable result of that breach.

Can I sue a professional for bad advice? Yes, if the professional fell below the standard of a reasonably competent member of their profession and that caused your loss. These claims usually need an expert opinion on what the standard required.

What is a business tort? A civil wrong that harms a business’s economic interests, such as inducing someone to break a contract with you, or using unlawful means to damage your business relationships.

How long do I have to sue? Most tort claims in Ontario must be started within two years of when you knew, or ought to have known, about the claim. Some exceptions apply.
